The Hot Spot of Lampedusa, like all detention centers for migrants, is a place where huge businesses are made everyday on people's skin, on the same ones who are forced to leave their countries and travel in dangerous ways often risking their lives.
The same people who run away from imperialist and neo-colonial wars, from secular robberies, from exploitation or simply people looking for a job. If this people had the chance to pay a normal plane ticket and look for a job their life would be less in danger and they wouldn’t need to "be saved" and closed up in detention centers.
In March of 2016 some of these people stayed on the island of Lampedusa for several months, some for a month, some two and some even three.
The Askavusa Collective with Mediterranen Hope and Diego Stanca organized several musical encounters with them. The sessions were also attended by other musicians who live on the island: Gianluca Greco, Damiano Della Torre and Giovanni Constantine. With this album we will make available some of the songs.
